What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is the physical act of applying pressure to the feet and hand with specific thumb, finger and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion. It is based on a system of zones and reflex areas that reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands with a premise that such work effects a physical change to the body.” The Complete Guide to Foot Reflexology (Third Edition) by Barbara and Kevin Kunz
During Reflexology session, the client will lie on a massage table while the practitioner feels the feet for granule like substances deep within them. These “crystals” are actually waste deposits that build up in the nerve endings and capillaries and restrict the free flow of blood. The reflexology treatment breaks up the deposits so that they can be flushed from the body. Furthermore, it is believed that energy is constantly circulating between organs and every living cell. When energy is blocked, problems arise in the area of blockage and crystals develop in the reflex zone, which is the source of pain in the area when a reflexologist applies pressure. Through proper massaging techniques, the energy blockages are destroyed and vitality is renewed.
The intention of a Reflexology session is to balance internal organ, gland and body functions. The primary benefits of receiving a Reflexology session include relaxation and stress reduction. Other benefits include an improvement in your body’s circulation which is responsible for delivering oxygen and vital nutrients to the farthest reaches of the body. It is believed that Reflexology can improve functions of musculoskeletal system, circulatory and lymphatic systems and profoundly affect the internal organs of the body.
